Engine lid latch hardware is revised and the rubber bumper recess deepens. Earliest cars require an interim shim to mate the new latch with the carried-over body.

The W-decklid: the Zwitter's first deletion

For roughly six weeks at the start of the Zwitter run, Wolfsburg fitted the cast 'W' decklid badge inherited from the late split-window cars. By mid-November the badge had been retired in favour of the smooth lid that would carry through the oval era — but the changeover wasn't stamped on a chassis plate or noted in the build sheets we have access to.

Surviving November '52 cars therefore present in both forms, occasionally on lids that have themselves been swapped during a long life. This piece walks through the period documentation, the dating logic, and what to look for when authenticating an early Zwitter.
